The Street Dog Crisis in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka faces a significant stray dog problem, with estimates suggesting there are between two and three million street dogs across the country, and some figures placing the number even higher. Many of these dogs endure extremely difficult lives, often suffering from malnutrition and a lack of consistent food, untreated injuries and disease, abandonment by previous owners, and constant exposure to harsh weather conditions and unsafe environments.
Our Vision
The AMITSU Dog Rescue Initiative aims to provide a safe refuge for rescued street dogs, where they can receive proper care, food, and medical attention.
With the space available on our land, we hope to create a peaceful sanctuary where rescued dogs can recover and live safely until they find permanent homes.
While we cannot solve the entire stray dog crisis, we believe that every dog saved is a life transformed. By combining rescue, care, and responsible adoption, we hope to contribute in a meaningful way to reducing suffering among Sri Lanka’s street dogs.
